David Long is a Partner with Alignvest, a venture capital and private equity firm in Toronto, Canada. There, he manages a fund on behalf of the firm’s partners and advises the insurance company Sagicor, in which Alignvest holds a significant minority stake. David is also the former Chief Investment Officer & SVP, ALM, Derivatives & Fixed Income of the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (“HOOPP”), a C$80 billion pension plan. In this position, he was responsible for Asset/Liability modeling and portfolio construction, Derivatives and Fixed Income, and Foreign Exchange. Prior to his appointment to CIO, he held various other investment management posts there from 2001. He is also the former head of Interest Rate Options & Exotics at Scotiabank and a former Internal Consultant at Ontario Hydro. David received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Brock University and a Masters of Mathematics and Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Waterloo. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
