Matthias Pries is Manager, Impact Investing at World Education Services (WES), where he responsible for the organization’s catalytic impact investing portfolio, providing capital to early-stage ventures and emerging fund managers that are advancing social and economic inclusion for underserved and overlooked communities across Canada and the U.S.

Matthias brings a wealth of experience from working at the intersection of capital and impact, from consulting, portfolio management, and new product development. He has previously managed a blended finance program at Convergence, developed innovative finance strategies for the Government of Canada, and led outcomes-based funding projects at the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing. His career began in in the UK where he supported Social Finance to launch and manage a private debt fund and helped social enterprises raise institutional impact capital.

Matthias is also active in impact investment outside of work. He is a member of the Investment Committee at Malbec Investments, a small family office, and is frequently a mentor to young professionals early in their impact investing journey. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Environment and Business from the University of Waterloo and a MSc in Climate Change Finance and Investment from the University of Edinburgh.
