This category will recognize the executives leading and guiding key investment, merger and acquisition decisions for a private equity firm, pension fund, and financial institution in the private markets. Dynamic candidates are deploying bold and innovative strategies producing both quantitative and qualitative results in the past 12-18 months. Judges will also take the applicant's dedication, integrity and commitment to making a positive societal impact into consideration.

This category is open to the professionals leading diversity efforts within their organization, industry and community. These true role models of excellence have put into practice innovative, internal diversity practices, and they are uniting their own firms and the industry around diversity and inclusion goals. At the same time, they strive to share the strengths of these efforts more broadly with others through transparent educational and informative activities. Influential and supportive to many, these nominees relentlessly pursue gender and racial equality and powerfully cultivate change.

Criteria:
This award sets out to identify and recognize the leaders of tomorrow who are leading the way in the industry with their talent, dedication and expertise. Stand out applications will provide clear examples on how this individual’s skill and leadership is producing both quantitative and qualitative results for their organization. The award is open to individuals who will be age 40 and under as of September, 2022.

Deal of the Year

GPs and Co-Investors Only

Criteria:
This award will recognize the most outstanding sale or acquisition of a company by a private equity firm (at least one party must be based in Canada) in the past 12-18 months. Judges will be on the lookout for deals that stand out for its innovation and execution. Examples of this would include evidence of being a landmark, market-first or template for future transactions. Complexity and innovation, such as deals including a cross-border component or those with innovative structures providing immediate or imminent success will also play a prominent part will be taken into consideration.

  • Provide deal details including size and deal type.

Criteria:
This award will recognize the firm(s) best demonstrating a commitment to fostering the advancement of diversity and inclusion through their mission statement, work environment and culture, and within their community. These activities address diversity and inclusion in its broadest sense, including but not limited to, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability and religious affiliation. Applicable companies demonstrate how they go above and beyond in their efforts to ensure equality and unleash the untapped potential of all employees. They have a proven track-record of attracting and advancing individuals from different backgrounds and typically underrepresented groups. At the same time, they strive to share the strengths of these efforts more broadly with others through transparent informative and educational activities.

Open to Law Firms, Investment Banks, Consultants, Fund Administrators, Financial Advisors and Placement Agents.

Criteria:
This category will recognize a wide range of suppliers and vendors that have demonstrated expertise and top-class client service and advice to the private equity community. Top submissions will detail how new initiatives, products or services have helped clients, and led to increased customers, and revenue growth. Products and services can include but are not limited to audit/tax; legal & compliance; marketing & communications; operations & technology; advisory services; information and data provider; and portfolio management and monitoring.

  • What makes this company stand out from counterparts; particularly within the past year to 18 months? How has it enhanced the competitive position of the firm?
  • Why should the firm’s product or service be recognized? If there is one story you want to tell, what would it be and why?
  • Share with us the firm's recent record of achievement in guiding and developing innovative deal structures, acquisitions and fundraising. Deals of various types, sizes and industries and the financial results generated will be considered.
  • Explain why your team excelled against the following criteria: expertise and innovation, project management skills and team working.

ESG/Impact Investment of the Year

Open to LPs, GPs, Consulting Firms, Law Firms, Investment Managers and Advisors

Entry Criteria
The judges will be looking for an ambitious project or initiative that has effectively delivered its objectives. This could be an international, national or local project with at least one party based in Canada. The entry should describe the project, explain its significance, set out its goals and provide hard evidence that these goals have been achieved, or are being achieved. Should be focused on external environmental impact, rather than internal initiatives.

Please include the following information:
  • Define the project or initiative’s scope. Please include timelines, goals and team members. It is acceptable for the entry to focus on a particular stage of a long-term project.
  • How successful was the implementation of this project or initiative? Was it within budget and delivered in time? What have been its benefits?
  • Please provide hard evidence that goals have – or are being – achieved.

Open to GPs, Fund-to-Funds, and Secondaries

Criteria:
This category will acknowledge leading Private Equity Firms for their achievement in investing, partnering, restructuring and ability to deliver strong returns to their investors. Judges will look for firms deploying differentiated strategies and taking collaborative approaches to produce both quantitative and qualitative results in the past 12-18 months. In addition to financial performance, the firm's integrity and commitment to making a positive societal impact will also be taken into consideration.

  • Provide a brief description of your firm’s key attributes; and competitive edge.
  • Achievements in due diligence, working with intermediaries, and any other special considerations.
